WAPC Outing:
Excursion to the SS United States
Friday, July 25, 2025
Outing Description: Several people have expressed interest in seeing the SS United States.
This one-hour excursion showcases the historic SS United States, temporarily docked in the Port of Mobile. Esteemed historian John Sledge, who works with the National Maritime Museum, will introduce guests to this iconic landmark of our nation’s marine heritage, sharing stories about its designers, builders, passengers, and devoted enthusiasts. Along the way we will get a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get a close waterside view of the venerable SS United States, the fastest ocean liner to ever cross the Atlantic and the largest passenger ship ever built entirely in this country.
We WILL NOT be boarding the SS United States on this cruise.
You MUST book your ticket in advance. It is non-refundable. Here is the link: Historic Blakeley > Things to Do > Events Be sure to click on the 4:15PM cruise, not the 3:00PM cruise!
If interested, we can explore more of Mobile in the late afternoon and/or have dinner together.
