We welcome Pensacola, Florida photographer, Andrew Velasco, who captured the revival of the DIY Music scene that was negatively impacted from the COVID-19 pandemic. Andrew’s work documents the rush of new and returning bands’ performances across a variety of music genres as they worked to recreate the local scene.
As the winner of the 2023 Julia Gorton Photography Award, he hosted PUNKDEMIC, his first-ever solo photo exhibition, at the historic 309 Punk House. This exhibition showcases the people who worked hard to restore the DIY music scene of the South. All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the tremendous support of musicians, visual artists, venues, and concertgoers who had a helping hand in making these shows a reality.
His presentation will showcase a selection of images captured during the past few years of Pensacola’s DIY/Punk scene and his process for shooting concert photography. A focus on building community and working within DIY music spaces will be at the center of this presentation.
